My name is Zach Steiner and I'm an electric bassist.  I started playing bass when I was 12 years old when all my friends and peers were gravitating toward the guitar, some later to settle for the role of bassist in future projects.  For me however, the bass has always been and continues to be my love and my passion, it has never been something I have settled for.  Settling is something I do not do in either my personal or musical life.  In all my projects I strive to provide the very best support that one man and 4 strings can provide.

I am a seasoned musician, well versed in many genres and styles.   I am very interested in the technical aspects of the instrument and I have a healthy arsenal of techniques at my disposal.  I have a wealth of on-stage experience spanning from small clubs to large festivals, both local and on the road.  I also have a lot of recording experience,  ranging from basements to high-end recording studios to live recordings on the stage.   I have had the privilege of working and playing with a wide variety of in demand musicians, engineers, and other such talented people in Milwaukee and now I am eager to do the same in Portland and the surrounding area.

My philosophy is simple, and it stems out of a question asked of me by my mentor in Milwaukee.  He asked me, "What is the most important part of a diamond ring?"  He went on to explain that while the obvious answer would be the diamond, the correct answer is the band, for without it the diamond has no platform upon which to shine and enchant the beholder.  I take this philosophy into my bass playing.  I am the band on which the diamond is supported.  I am a very capable player, but I know how to pick my moments.  I actively avoid overplaying and strive to play only that which serves the movement of the music.  And like the band to the diamond, when it is time for a bandmate to shine, I support them with 17 years of experience,  with love and with an undying commitment to the true nature of my craft.
